Skin care: six questions you deserve to have answered
What makes this product better than the others? Why were these ingredients chosen? Where are these products made? How can I be sure of their quality?
Do you often let skin care products into your home with very little information about the brand and their products? Yes, you say? Well, you’re not alone. Research is time consuming after all!
We believe that you deserve answers to these questions and we are serving them straight up! We sat down, cup of tea in hand, and chatted to one of the co-owners of Botany Essentials and have all the answers for you!
What is the motivation behind Botany Essentials?
As a registered nurse and midwife, I have a genuine appreciation of health and the way quality natural skin care products can contribute to our overall wellbeing both psychologically and physically.
With Botany Essentials products we (co-owners) feel that every ingredient should serve a purpose and be of the highest quality to qualify to be included in our products. We have over 20 years’ experience in developing and manufacturing products for more than 300 companies (each one made in our Melbourne warehouse). As an Australian owned and operated company, we take great pride in contributing to the Australian economy through worldwide exportation.
Our brand and products are designed to beautifully style a space and to integrate seamlessly into your home. We aim to provide customers not just a product, but an experience and a lifestyle choice in terms of both functionality and aesthetics.
Essential oils and plant extracts are the key ingredients in Botany Essentials products. What are the benefits of these ingredients?
All of our products contain 100% natural plant derived ingredients and they all serve a functional purpose. As an example the indigenous (native to Australia) plant extracts in our botany naturals range are paramount to providing superior function and support for optimal hydration and conditioning for the most sensitive skin type.
Where do you source the ingredients from?
The ingredients are sourced worldwide with priority on sourcing directly from farmers, growers and processors that specialise in natural botanical extracts and ingredients. Our native extracts are 100% sourced in Australia from sustainable resources.
What products do you use regularly yourself?
Tough question: perhaps the question should be ‘what don’t I use’!
I am a huge hand-washing advocate, particularly in the flu season. My “go to” is the botany naturals Hand and Body Wash with lemon myrtle, olive oil and blackwood wattle.
Many dinner party guests have come out of my bathroom and commented on the hand and body wash. The star ingredient is the lemon myrtle, which has a citrusy note and is native to Australia.
I also love the flame tree Shampoo and Conditioner and the Advanced Day Crème… and the 100% natural essential oil room diffusers. Sorry, I am a huge fan of all the botany naturals range – total bias!
If you had to choose one must-have product for new customers, what would it be and why?
If you love that ultra fresh, clean feel, I would say try the botany naturals Body Polish which has lychee, papaya, camellia and Himalayan salt. You feel exfoliated and moisturised at the same time. Heaven if someone can give you an all over massage or maybe just do your back.
If you’re looking for a regular skincare routine, try the botany naturals Advanced Day Crème with green tea, lilli pilli and kakadu plum teamed with the Night Crème in the evening that has crown of gold, manuka honey and native frangipani.
Sorry… I guess choosing one was too much to ask!
What are you most proud of with respect to Botany Essentials?
One of the hardest choices anyone may make in life is to start your own business. It takes time and the work is harder than any work you will ever do working for someone else by simply going to work, drawing a wage and going home at the end of the day somewhat stress free. Running a business isn’t easy and success takes many years to achieve. You will live and breathe your business every day and night – you and your staff rely on you.
I am proud of what we have achieved – where we started and where we are now. I am proud of the fact that we manufacture our products and export over 80% of everything we make and contribute to our economy. I am proud of our staff who work as a team and who are key to our business, as well as the friends and family that support. I am proud of the fact that despite the set-backs that we encountered along the way, we found a way to turn them into successes.
Most importantly, I am proud of what we are delivering to our customers.
