Charcoal is used to burn resins.  Hold a flame to edge of charcoal until it lights with sparks travelling across the charcoal.  Be sure to place on non flammable service before sparks reach your fingertips.  Then sprinkle resin on top to create incense smoke.  Add more resin as desired, charcoal will heat for approximately 15 minutes. When finished it turns to ash.
