Before we do it’s important to note that the world of aromatherapy is vast and diverse and this is by no means a comprehensive list so while classics like Lavender and Vanilla are often associated with romance, they did not make our list this time. The focus of this article is to shed light on to some of the more exotic fragrances in our range that can add an intriguing twist to any romantic experience, and so our selections aim to introduce you to some of these lesser-known essences.


Rose: Starting off with a heavy hitter, rose is undoubtedly with most romantic of flowers and as such we had to make a place for it on our list. Emanating a sweet, floral scent Rose Absolute has been celebrated for centuries as an aphrodisiac, relieving stress and fatigue, making it one of the most popular and expensive essential oils in the world. At Botany Essentials we have developed a Rose 5% formula in Jojoba Oil which offers all the benefits of its absolute form while still being affordable for every day use. Although this oil can be defused it is best applied topically to make the most of its emollient and antibacterial properties. Additionally, Rose oil is know to blend well with all the other oils in our range.

Patchouli: If floral fragrances are not for you then Patchouli may be more your style. Derived from the leaves of the patchouli plant, this oil’s aroma is earthy and woody leaving a slightly spicy, cool note that has been used for centuries in perfumes. This rich, musky fragrance has a grounding effect, encouraging relaxation and emotional openness, so no matter how you use this oil, patchouli can create an atmosphere of warmth and sensuality that is often used to foster a deeper connection with a partner or as an aid in meditation.

This oil is produced from the unblemished blossoms of bitter orange trees and differentiates itself from orange blossom oils due to its extraction method (steam distilled) that produces this superior essential oil, available both as Neroli Absolute and Neroli 3% in Jojoba Oil. This oil is robust enough to be used in vaporisers, introduced into a carrier as a massage oil, or even added to a hot bath for a luxurious and serene experience.

Clary Sage: Often dubbed “The woman’s oil,” Clary Sage has been used for centuries and is recognised for its particular benefits in women’s health, stabilising hormones and mood, increasing circulation, as well as alleviating cramps and other aches & pains, so it is the perfect ‘pick me up’ when not feeling 100%.
